New work in progress- Israel and Palestine

1/16/2015

I started a new 68" or 173cm sculpture today. After making the USA, I had to make this one. It will be a wall piece. After todays events in France, I am thinking about it more and more. I changed the format to this shape. Wish me luck. I am going to need it!

SMAart Gallery & Studio is pleased to present Socially Conscious Abstraction, featuring ceramic and mixed media sculpture by eight California based artists and is curated by Jennifer Brazelton. The artists in this show have created sculptures with socially conscious intension utilizing a sophisticated personal visual language. These charged abstractions reinterpret the phenomenon of people, places, and things into a personal language ripe with possibilities. Each artist begins with what Twyla Tharp refers to as the “Spine”. Their abstracted sculptures are supported by a conceptual backbone. These underlying conceptual foundations are what give their work energy and audaciousness.
About SMAart Gallery & Studio: Situated on Sutter Street in the heart of the Lower Polk///TL Art Walk, SMAart Gallery & Studio offers monthly exhibits, classes and art studio rentals. SMAart is a place to learn-see-do art in a creative open environment surrounded by other stimulating artists.

I am excited to be one of the featured artists in this new book. The book is a very detailed exploration of how 100 different artists approach glazing. It is full of helpful technical information and plenty of inspiring eye candy too. I hope you can pick one up. http://www.amazon.com/Glaze-Ultimate-Ceramic-Artists-Guide/dp/0764166425

Goodbye 2013- Hello 2014!

As another year comes to a close I find myself in the painting/experimental part of my art making process.  This is one of my most recent alcohol ink on vellum pieces. I love this combo and I am starting to combine print making techniques with the inks.
I have also been working with animal jaw bones. The images below are made from muskrat jawbones. I call them Terminator Orchids.  I am so inspired by the bone sculptures of Judy Onofrio. http://www.judyonofrio.com/work/new/default.html Check out her work if you haven't seen it. Amazing!
